Orthopaedics

Orthopaedics is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of conditions involving the bone, muscles and joints. The team of senior orthopaedic surgeons, supported by state-of-the-art Operating Theatres with the latest technology such as advanced surgical microscopes, is well-equipped to handle disorders such as trauma, fractures, ligament injuries, deformities, and tumours, both in the paediatric and adult populations. The most common orthopaedic diseases prevalent in the region are osteoarthritis - a degenerative disease that causes pain and stiffness in the joint, and osteoporosis - a condition where bones become fragile and break easily due to low levels of calcium. Scoliosis is also another prevalent condition with an abnormal curvature of the spine which can cause back pain and breathing problems. Additionally, the department specialises in sports injuries, including muscle strains, ligament sprains, and bone fractures. For minor injuries, rest is usually enough to heal the injury.

However, for severe injuries, even surgery may be required to repair the damage done to the bone or ligament. The most common surgeries performed at the hospital include trauma surgeries, total joint replacement surgeries (hip, knee, shoulder), arthroscopic (key-hole) surgeries, spine surgeries, hand and foot surgeries, surgeries for sports injuries, and deformity correction surgeries in children and adults. We also integrate physical medicine and rehabilitation programs for early recovery after trauma and surgeries, to alleviate chronic neck and back pains, and improve quality of life.
